Heritage Bank Ends Reporting Paper Chase with Monarch Data Pump
"Monarch Data Pump has enabled Heritage Bank to automate specific analytical work. For example, MDP is used to mine data for certain deposit accounts from our General Ledger, which is then reconciled to data mined from our Trial Balance. Our accountants then can see right away where discrepancies exist and act on them immediately."
Georgia-based Heritage Bank utilizes an outside data processing firm for its banking transaction needs. While the bank remains satisfied with this service, the bank found it next to impossible to work effectively with the bundles of paper reports provided by the data processing firm. Heritage Bank turned to Monarch Data Pump (MDP) to end the bank's reliance on thick paper reports. Even better, Monarch Data Pump helped the bank take its business management to an exciting new level, through easy, automated access to data needed for business decisions, without programming.
"Our core processing company does a fine job with our transaction processing," says Michael Smith, IT Consultant for Heritage Bank and Principal, MKS Computing. "Unfortunately, printing and working with the daily report print files provided by our core processing company is very cumbersome. At one point, the bank was printing a lot of paper reports unnecessarily, such as printing a 600-page report just to get at certain subtotals."
"After initial success with Monarch, Datawatch's desktop report mining software, I then saw the great potential Monarch Data Pump offered to fully automate our reporting processes, and deliver data sourced from our banking reports automatically."
Monarch Data Pump resides on a Windows server and automatically launches report mining and data mining processes on a scheduled or event-driven basis. Data within text-based reports, PDF files and other data sources can be mined, combined, customized, and delivered to desired recipients in a wide variety of formats, including Excel, Access, uploaded to databases such as SQL Server, and much more.
Best of all, Monarch Data Pump leverages Heritage Bank's large library of existing banking reports as a live data source. As a result, Monarch Data Pump is typically implemented at a small fraction of the cost and time required for alternative reporting solutions.
"With no new programming, Monarch Data Pump now has daily work for bank staff members waiting for them in their email inbox, usually in the form of customized Excel data mined from banking reports," Michael says.
"Our staff no longer has to print and slog through thick paper reports. In fact, we were also able to redeploy employees who no longer have to do manual paper report processing and handling. On these benefits alone, Monarch Data Pump has proven to be a wise investment."
But the business benefits of Monarch Data Pump for Heritage Bank go much further. "Monarch Data Pump has enabled Heritage Bank to automate specific analytical work," Michael says. "For example, MDP is used to mine data for certain deposit accounts from our General Ledger, which is then reconciled to data mined from our Trial Balance. Our accountants then can see right away where discrepancies exist and act on them immediately."
"Any banking organization, particularly banks relying on an outside core processing firm, should take a close look at Monarch Data Pump to get at that data and deliver it to the right person at the right time, without programming."
"Another example of business process automation with Monarch Data Pump helps the bank proactively manage accounts past due or at risk for going past due," Michael adds. "Monarch Data Pump automatically mines data from our past due report, exports select data into Excel, and emails the data to the Risk Manager for review and action. Monarch Data Pump helps enable proactive account monitoring and collection efforts for our bank."
Heritage Bank also frequently utilizes Monarch Data Pump's ability to upload acquired data to enterprise databases. "Heritage Bank also uses Monarch Data Pump as a programming-free ETL tool, enabling us to populate SQL Server databases used as part of the bank's Intranet," says Michael. "For example, we mine data from our teller transaction reports into a SQL Server database. That database is used for various analyses, including teller scheduling decisions and reviewing transaction errors that required correction, and determining where more teller training may be necessary. "Proactive bank management is greatly enabled by Monarch Data Pump, which builds the necessary data marts with no new programming!"
Heritage Bank has found Monarch Data Pump to be a simple yet powerful compliment to its core processing system. "Thanks to Monarch Data Pump, we have kicked the paper report habit here at Heritage Bank, and started working with the data buried within our existing banking reports, automatically," says Michael.
"Any banking organization, particularly banks relying on an outside core processing firm, should take a close look at Monarch Data Pump to get at that data and deliver it to the right person at the right time, without programming."
